Smashed My Middle Finger But Deadlifts Still Went Great
Last night I slept great. I wanted to watch the Rays game and watch for people but the idea of just relaxing in bed under the cover sounded too good to pass up on. I was tired anyway.
I woke up this morning feeling very refreshed and energetic. That cool air really helped me get a good night’s rest. I have not had that in a few days.
I enjoyed my coffee this morning. The slight chill in the house made it all the better to drink it. While I was drinking my coffee I found and fixed a small little bug in one of my components for the template for this site. I forgot to mark the return as safe so it didn’t show the date as it should have. It was an easy fix.
My hamstring is still a bit twitch so I was also contemplating on whether I wanted to give my deadlifts a shot or not today. I am saving the squats for later in the week again.
Finally, around midmorning I decided I should just get dressed and give them a shot. WOrst case is I quit. It was too nice in the garage to not enjoy the sunny skies outside while I am bettering myself.
Things started out great with the 115 pound warm up set. I felt like I was moving well and my legs were firing evenly instead of the one being slightly slower. The same with the set at 145 pounds.
After that set is where things went a little sideways. I have said on here before that a lot of times I call myself a walking accident waiting to happen. Once again this morning I did something stupid. While I was setting the 15 pound plates down I managed to get my middle finger between two of them. I had it through the hole. I was sitting it on the higher side of the box than normal so my brain misjudged distance. I guess it bent awkwardly too but it feels fine.
That sure didn’t feel so great. It caught right on the nail. It settled down a bit after a few minutes so I continued on with my lifts. I still felt it a little and still do while sitting here typing but at least it’s fine.
Continuing to work up in the weights they were feeling great aside from the slight discomfort while gripping the bar. I approached them one set at a tme and decided if it annoys my hand too much I would just stop.
The final AMRAP called for 3+ reps at 265 pounds. At least the weight was not too heavy. I only did 3 and released the bar on the ground each rep to reset my grip and give that middle finger a second or two to settle. The lifts themselves felt great and I left plenty in the tank.
It felt great to get the deadlifts done and have success despite my own stupidity. We shall see whether I do a WOD later on or not. I was going to do a longer row but I will pass on that for today.
Music for the WOD was Candlemass.
