My Squats Felt Better Than I Expected

I did not feel good at all when I woke up this morning. My head was very stuffy, and my eyes were more watery than I can remember. I was just feeling really off in the head. I don’t believe I am getting sick, but one never knows. Then again, on Friday I was just around Braves fans a couple of days ago, and that is, in itself, a sickness.

I was a bit back and forth while drinking my coffee about whether I wanted to give this week’s squats a try or deadlifts a try. I decided on the squats since I did not want to lose focus with the deadlifts. Back squats are just an instinct for me. Another option was that I could wait for another day, but I did not want to get behind on my schedule.

I went with the back squats. Going into it before I even started, I made the decision that I was just going to get reps in and not really care about what was programmed too much. I never thought I would get to the working sets. The goal was to take my time and get some reps in.

The lighter sets felt surprisingly good to me considering just how off in the head I was feeling before I started. Usually on the rare occasion when I am feeling like that, it feels like I am unbalanced squatting and maybe shifting my weight. Today I didn’t feel that.

I ended up getting 4 reps at the final working AMRAP at 230 pounds. On any other day this is a very light weight for me to be repping but considering the way am feeling today I waS happy with the 4 reps. I dumped the 5th rep as I felt like my weight shifted forward when I started coming up. That’s okay, though.

I spent some time outside on the patio in the sun. It was fairly quiet outside, and the sun felt great.

My next dilemma was I did want to get a WOD in. Something that was just bodyweight was what I thought was in my best interest for this day with feeling off. It just so happened that one of this week’s SHIFT WODs was simply air squats and rest. That was perfect for what I wanted to do today.

I moved at about a moderate intensity with the workout. Just deliberately getting my heart rate up was my main goal. It was so nice that they had something simple and effective programmed this week instead of the weird overly complicated shit they have been pushing a lot.

It felt great to get some movement in, and it actually seemed to help clear my head just a little. I wonder if the oil from the stupid chip and oil and chip crap they did to our street last week is irritating me. It was hot when they did it, so I had the windows open. The oil was burning my eyes.
