Healthy Doughnuts For Breakfast!
Doughnuts For Breakfast

This morning I woke up feeling tired. I thought I slept well and even enough, but my body just wants to stay in bed and do nothing. Regardless I got up and drank my coffee.
I was anxious to get out into the garage and do something as soon as it warmed up enough outside that I could take the plants back outside. We will do something else with them later but with the potential frost I brought our spider plant and palm in and put them just inside the door. That is right where I needed to work out.
I think it may be less that I am tired and mre that being under the covers felt so great with the finally cooler air in here. I used to love that at the mountains. Man sleeping with no heat was so great for me sometimes! I had heat aviable. I was just too cheap to pay for propane. It wasn’t like I had pipes or anything to worry about freezing. I wasn’t normally there when it was extremely cold. The lowest it got at night was probably in the lower 20s.
Over the years of doing workouts like this when it is a minute or less of work per round I have learned to settle on a number. Getting good reps is much more important than eking out an extra garbage rep or two for a score. Typically, for this WOD I would have likely gone for 20 reps a minute, but I wanted to hold back a bit with the issues I have recently had. It was a workout and got my heart rate up, and I walked away from it feeling better than when I started.
Towards midmorning it warmed up enough outside to put the plants back out on the patio, so I got changed and moved them out and got started with my lifts. My tricep was angry this morning so wasn’t confident with my presses today. I started with an extra warmup set at 45 pounds and that felt surprisingly good.
I took my time slowly climbing up the weights, and they continued feeling good if not great. As they got heavier the lifts were feeling better too!
The final AMRAP called for 5+ reps at 120 pounds and while I was lacking the confidence in their completion I got the 5 reps in easily. The only reason I didn’t do more is on that 4 rep the plate clipped the top of the rack, so I lost focus a little. Damn low vision problems. Gets me off center all the time.
I decided early on when I looked at the program that I was going to have a little fun with it. As the picture shows I used the 10 pound doughnut plates I got for Christmas last year. I prefer not to use the often and not when I might drop the bar because I want to keep them nice. Today was the perfect day since I needed the 10s on the outside for the last set.
I relaxed a bit after I finished my presses and ate something. Later this morning I started the hunt for a WOD. I settled on one from earlier this year and did the SHIFT version of it. It was just rowing 2 minutes then a minute of hang dumbbell snatches. It was simple enough and the snatches is where I wanted to push the weight a little bit. I have been going lighter due to the hamstring, but today I went with the 30 pound dumbbell. It was easy, and I got a not aggressive 15 per minute.

I am not saying you shouldn’t get uncomfortable when doing a WOD. I like to do that but today was not really a time for that. Today is a bout seeing how things feel since I am coming off of something. I was happy with how it went. The workout surely felt like it was a step in the right direction to get where I want to be. I just have to keep reminding myself to be patient.
I did manage to take advantage of the nice temperatures and bright sunshine and get a bit of time out on the patio. I will head back out a little later to get some more too!
Music today was The last song on the Virus CD I have then Virvum.
