Guestbooks

It seems like lifetimes ago when they were still a thing, but I remember way back yesteryear when a lot of times sites would have a guest book. I created a guestbook for this website some time ago but only just now got around to linking it. Feel free to browse it and sign it if you wish. Just don’t be a dick and spam.

Long before social media was a thing they were interesting to read when you came across an interesting site. There are often links to similar ones. Spam wasn’t big yet.

Social media could be more interesting than it is but the powers that be earned that AI and the algorithm to keep people fighting makes them more money. That and showing more ads. It is mostly mind-numbing garbage or at least the big sites are.

Comments to posts used to be a neat way to interact too. I rarely did or do, but it was neat to see other people’s thoughts back when I had them on here. For years this site under a different domain was a WordPress blog. I don’t miss that at all. It was easy enough to keep it up to date, but I still had to remember to update it.

Don’t even get me started on the SEO spam shit show that comments turned into.

It was not that long ago that I rediscovered the idea of them when I started seeing them pop up on some of the small websites. I created one, but it took until now to actually link to it from here.

I have spent a while debating whether I wanted to go through with linking it or not. Obviously I decided to go ahead and add it. I can always disable it later or delete it if I chose to.

I miss when the stuff on the web was people. Now it is mostly bots, influences and the very commercial stuff. I wish there was more personal stuff. There is plenty of space to do that, and it’s cheaper and easier than ever now.
