Deadlifts Felt Better Than They Have In A Long Time
Last night I slept decently enough. It was kind of surprising as the rain and thunder outside along with a picture that I saw on social media reminded me greatly of where I used to camp. I would probably put money on the picture being taken there, and I have a good idea where it was taken. I am not 100% positive though as things have changed a lot in nearly 30 years.
Between that picture and talking to an old friend the other night from up there I have been feeling pretty nostalgic about those days. That was my happy place. No I do not want to go back to those days in any way shape or form, but I do recognize the fond memories. Maybe one of these days I may want to revisit the old stomping grounds. Right now I kind of want to. I get hesitant of it because of the can of worms that going back could open for me. I try to keep the past in the past.
I woke up feeling pretty good, so I was thinking about getting to my deadlifts not to late this morning. I got caught up in messing with my templates for this site a bit first, but that gave me time for the sun to come out.
The sunshine was shining in the large windows in the garage gym while I was getting ready then getting started on the deadlifts. If I walked near it or near the sliding glass door the sun felt very nice on my legs.
The thing that caught my attention from the very start with the dead lifting is that the warmup sets felt particularly good today. I just felt like I was moving well. As the weights of the sets increased they continued feeling great!
The working weights felt excellent as well. The final AMRAP called for 1+ reps ant 280 pounds and my form felt just about as perfect as it is going to for me. The weight is fairly heavy so it didn’t feel light or anything like that. I can say it felt doable. I only did the one lift but had more in the tank. This was such a wonderful day for me out here in the garage I wanted to be sure to end it in a positive note, so I stopped there. Another factor of stopping is while my hamstring feels just fine now I still want to be slow and meticulous about things for the time being.
What a great way to enjoy this morning it was for me. Lifting is what makes my mind calm and happy. It is just me verses gravity and my eyesight is a small factor at best. Today it was not one at all. I didn’t grab the bar off center even once.
When my lifts go like they did today it puts my mind in a good state for the rest of the day. That is of course unless some external factor changes it. I wish they all went like this but as Nan used you say “You take the good with the bad.” I will be enjoying the rest of this day. I may even get outside on the patio to catch some sunshine if it stays clear enough.
Music for today was Cephalic Carnage.
