Only Two Squats This Morning But It's A Win!

To start things off on the right foot this morning, I am exhausted. The game was on later last night. The Phillies lost, but I actually expected that. It just was not their year this year. After the dreadful start to the season, I am surprised that they even made the playoffs at all. Oh well. Starting Nola was a choice last night. So was keeping Kevin long after the bats all became inconsistent every year.

I feel like I did not sleep enough last night because of that. That aside, I did want to give my back squats a try this morning. My hamstring is feeling a bit tired still but much better. I just wanted to get under the bar and see how I would go.

I ate my donut after we got home from the grocery store and relaxed a few minutes. Made up my mind that I wanted to get under the bar early, though, while I was fresh, and who knows what running around we will do later?

The squats felt reasonably good on that hamstring with the super light warm-up sets. I even started with the empty bar this morning. I don’t always do that, but it is a great way to see how I’m feeling about the movement.

Today I took my time working my way up through the weights. The sun felt good coming in the window when I was loading the bar, and I was just sort of lost in my head between the sets. It felt outstanding to be back under the bar.

The working sets felt a little tougher than they should have, but the first two were easily manageable. Just a little more focused, I guess.

The final AMRAP called for 5+ reps at 240 pounds. It’s a moderately light weight and should be no proplem at all for me. The weight actually felt great. Maybe a little heavier than it should have, but all was fine. I did stop after just two reps were completed, as I felt like possibly I was favoring one leg more than the other. I would think that could end with me twisting my body to compensate and fucking up my back eventually, so I almost always stop then. Since I had pulled the hamstring a bit last weekend, I am sure that is what caused it.

I was happy with how today went. The way my hamstring felt when I first tripped last weekend, I thought I’d be out of it for much longer than a week or two. I am grateful for every change I get to get under the bar. I started so late in life. Always on my mind is the fact that I am fortunate I can do what I do now!

The harsh reality is I am closer to the point in life where I am just fighting to maintain, if not slow, the loss of strength. Of course I want to keep gaining, but the clock is ticking and has been ticking for a long time. That’s fine though.

I will keep pushing as best I can to gain strength, and we will see how that goes. Because of reality, I do keep in the back of my mind that I am not young anymore. I can and will continue to try to move better with everything I do.
