The tropical Atlantic is still active in the basin. It's near the peak of the season and we have two tropical storms and a major hurricane spinning out there.

It's not something that happens every year so it is interesting to me. Hurricane Felix is the second category five storm in the Atlantic basin this year.

Hurricane is about to made landfall as a category five storm with 165 mph winds. It's now weakened to a category three storm while over the land of the Yucatan Peninsula.

Hurricane Dean now has winds of a 125 miles per hour and a category three storm. It's expected to strengthen some more too. It's looking healthy on satellite right now.

So far this ear the Atlantic basin has been quiet in the Tropics but we now have finally have a hurricane. Tropical Storm Dean has strengthened into one.

It was around this time in 1972 that the remnants of Hurricane Agnes impacted the area. I've always been fascinated by that storm even though it was before my time. I just have heard so many stories about it.
