All these years later, I finally switched back to a shared host. There's less for me to take care of that way when my mind's too preoccupied to remember to keep track of updates.

I got the itch to try out a new hosting provider. It seems to happen every so often for me. It's so spontaneous when I get that itch. While doing that I decided to try out ZFS, finally after all these years and the PF firewall.
