Got Presses And An Easy WOD Done On This Very Humid Day
Last night I slept ok but not really long enough since the Phillies game ended later. The humidity after the heavy rain had me wound up too, so it took me a bit to settle down after going to bed in that air-conditioned bedroom.
I woke up pretty early too. It was so humid when I left the bedroom it hit me like a wall. While I was drinking my coffee, it got a bit foggy outside. Once I was done drinking my coffee, I decided to get changed and go out into the home gym to get my presses in.
This week called for the 3+ rep AMRAP at a reasonably light weight of 110 pounds. I did that purposely after my hiatus from lifting before we went to Philly to ease back into things.
I wasn’t really confident on how these would feel for me today or if I could even do them at all. Late last week I jammed my hip when I unexpectedly stepped in a hole. It was the kind of jam where you feel the wave of pins and needles go down your leg. It was fine right afterward, so I thought I dodged a bullet, but it felt worse as the day continued, and it’s been angry since. I rested a few days. Attempted my deadlifts on Monday but aborted them and have done just bench press and easy WODs since then. I did some nerve glides yesterday afternoon and got it to release some and continued feeling better.
The presses, as I expected, felt fine. The lighter sets were easy, and the later ones felt fine. The last AMRAP called for 110 pounds, and I got an easy 6 reps before racking the bar as to not overdo it. I was thrilled with how that felt.
I ate something and relaxed a bit while I was going back and forth in my head on whether I wanted to do a WOD too. Ultimately I decided to do one later this morning, but it was extremely humid by then. I searched through my favorites for one that included weighted squats. I wanted to give those a try with fairly light dumbbells.
I took it a little slower because of the heat and humidity but still easily got within their goal time. Of course I also wanted to be cautious and feel the WOD out with my hip issues. The squats and presses felt pretty good. Just a little tightness, but it felt like I was moving well with no issues. The worst problem I had was the floor was slippery from both the humidity and my sweat dripping.
It felt good to do a little more out there today. I guess as I get older, I will have more of these nagging things going on, but so far I have been lucky, and I am grateful for that. I never want to lose that ability to move and do things and intend to do anything I can do to reduce the chances.
Music today was Megadeth.
