Deadlifts Went Great This Morning Even Though I Am Dead Tired

This morning I woke feeling exhausted. Before I stayed up last night to watch the shit show that was the Eagles game, I was tired to begin with. I woke up on about 5 hours of sleep. For a second or two I thought I could go back to sleep, but then a wave of wakefulness shot through my brain.

The game was a waste of my time to watch. I want Howie to give my my time back! I guess the Phillies eking their way into the playoffs used the Philly sports juju up for this week.

I drank my coffee and sat here on the computer, continuing to work on my front matter script. Last night while I was watching football, I had some thoughts on how to improve it. While I was doing that, one thought kept going through my mind. My brain could not decide whether I wanted to give my deadlifts a shot or let that go until tomorrow. I am going to save my squats for last this week since my knee has been wonky.

What is the worst that could happen? If I felt too tired to finish them out or my knee felt weird, I could simply just stop and walk away. In my experience the mind and body are capable of going even when it feels like they can’t. I always say that I know, but I forget to keep that frame of mind every so often. The funny thing is I basically preach about that being one of the biggest benefits of working out here in my home gym on my time.

Later this morning, or at least later than I have been getting out there, I was feeling decent enough after failing to take a power nap. I got changed and headed off into the garage.

It was mostly clear, and the sun shining in the window felt good on my legs. I started out my deadlifts after fiddling wiht my music player a bit. This was just one of these days where my brain isn’t functional.

I got started on lifts after a couple of false starts. The lighter sets actually felt great. More important than that, my knee felt perfectly normal with the extension.

I worked my way up through the weights and the lifts, continuing to feel great. The final working set called for the 5+ AMRAP at 250 pounds. Certainly not heavy, but it felt doable, and my body was cooperative. I did stop at 5 reps, but I could have done more.

I may do a WOD later on today if I feel up to it. I may need to do one after the Phillies piss me off. For now I just ate some tuna fish, and I am considering vegging out in bed on my tablet and hoping to drift off into one of those oh-so-rare things called a nap. We shall see how that goes!

For now I am content with just the deadlifts. I am so glad that I did them!

Music for the WOD was Meshuggah.
