AI Overviews Are Nice But I Still Prefer Human Made Sites
I really do find that AI answers quite handy for certain queries. It’s great to ask something simple like “What time is the Eagles game today?” or something like that.
Often times these websites that are made, written and maintained by an actual human being are far more interesting. They are usually unique too. It is common for me to explore their other posts or pages if I find what they wrote appealing.
I suppose a lot of that is nostalgia from when I first got on the internet. It was a lot more wild west back then. People put effort into pages because they wanted to. Early on it was more nerdy people that got online. I am a nerd.
It is not uncommon for me to be going through Wiby section looking at random pages. I do on occasion use Kagi Small Web’s random page button to.
Those things can be far more fascinating than doom-scrolling on social media where the algorithm shows yo the same 5 things over and over again.
That being said the AI stuff is really nice for a very quick overview. Being able to ask a quick question is so handy. It’s also a good place to get started looking deeper into something. It can be a great tool to have in the toolbox, but I think human stuff is still better at least for now.
I will also say that I have seen AI return a lot of incorrect answers. There are plenty that are partially true too. The thing is too many people will take it as absolute fact.
I am not a huge fan of the depersonalization of the web in general. I miss when everything was unique and people made stuff and shared stuff because they wanted to. Now it is about money. Everything is so cookie cutter now. Netizens should take back the web!
Get out there and use the tools that are available to make something unique. Something that is yours and one your way. There are definitely tools now to make it easier than ever to make your own page or blog.
