Switched Order And Got Bench Press In

I slept pretty okay last night. Not long enough, but I felt rested okay enough. My head was pretty stuffy when I woke up, but that happens this time of the year.

I drank my coffee and cleaned up some of my templates for this site a bit, but I kept thinking about how I wanted to approach working out today.

Yesterday my knee went wonky during the WOD which was not ideal, but I finished the WOD with no issues. After I was done, the one time I noticed it was when I first took the first step down the top stair. I noticed this morning that the quad was twitching a bit, and it felt a lot better.

While I was chilling and scrolling on my tablet a bit, I was debating what I wanted to do today for my lifting and a WOD later if I do one. On Monday I typically do back squats, but with my knee yesterday, I thought the wisest thing to do would be to give myself an extra day or two before getting to them.

That being said, I am confident that I could have done them and have been fine. I am just trying to be diligent in setting myself up to be smarter about this stuff as I get older. More things will feel worse, and recovery will probably become slower. I would rather be able to keep lifting and gaining or at least maintain instead of wishing I had been smarter.

I ended up switching up the order of my lifts and did my bench ress this morning instead of tfhe squats. THe benching for me as been feeling really good too!

In hindsight I restarted too light a few months back. That is okay though. I am slowly building back up and getting my wrist used to it. It has been feeling pretty decent. The lump is back, but it isn’t bugging me.

The lighter warmup sets felt excellent today. I was just feeling it and taking the joy of being under the bar in as I slowly worked my weight up in weights. The garage is cooler now, so that makes everything feel so much better.

As the weights got heavier, the bench press continued feeling great. Today’s final AMRAP was 5+ reps at 160 pounds. It felt like a moderate weight, and I knocked out a nice easy 7 reps.

Just as it always does, it felt great to get out in the garage and get some lifting in. I imagined doing that when we first moved into this house and it had a garage, but it took years to actually go through with it for one reason or another. A lot of that time it was full of junk, so that didn’t help. I am forever grateful for the means and ability to do this stuff and also finding ways to work around being old and also my low vision.

I will have to think about doing a WOD later. Probably find something that doesn’t use my knee a lot. First I will go grab a shower and try to take a power nap since I am tired and the Eagles play tonight.

Music for the WOD was Meshuggah.
