Played With The Strongman Sandbag To Mix Things Up
I did not sleep well last night. Things kept waking me up. Thunder, my girlfriend messing with the air conditioner, and eventually my watch got a notification this morning. That one was annoying. It was some junk notification that interrupted me in the middle of a dream.
I was dreaming that I was getting ready to do the final very heavy set of back squats. That pissed me off because I did not get to find out how I did. I think I had to do 3 reps at 295 pounds in the dream. Oh well. I guess I will have to work my way up to it in the physical world over the next cycles and see how it really goes.
We got the grocery store over with and I was thinking about doing a WOD. I wanted to do something different than I have been doing. I have been feeling good and got my motivation back in a lot of ways so I am slowly ramping it up.
Thinking about it, I wanted to take the strongman sandbag out on the patio and work with that a little. I don’t like to use it inside if I can avoid it. At first when I took it out, it seemed like it was dark and could rain.
I went with the slightly lighter 90-ish pound sandbag today. It has been a long time since I have touched it. It has been so long that I can’t even say when I last used it offhand. Maybe early spring? This year has been so chaotic.
The sun was in and out while I was outside throwing that gravel-filled ball over my shoulder, and it was less humid than it had been. Who would have thunk that dew points in the lower 70s would feel better? That’s where we are this year.
The weight actually felt very light today. I guess the heavy kettlebell swings and general lifting have helped. It never really felt that heavy. The sets were small, and there was a ladder, though. Since it’s been many months, I also took the over-the-shoulder movement slower than I normally would.
I have been wanting to take that out and play with it all summer but just haven’t gotten around to it with the persistent heat. The same goes for the sled. It felt wonderful to get outside and toss some weight around today.
It’s always great for the mind to do that.
