Love Seeing The Storm Sit Off The Jersey Coast

During the winter this nor’easter would probably be frustrating because it would be bringing a little too much warm air off the ocean for snow. It’d be wet and chilly, though.

That aside, it is late September, so snow is not even in the books. It is nice seeing that storm sitting off the Jersey coast and spinning. It is not racing off to the northeast like so many of them seem to do during the winter. More often than not during the cold season, it is a timing thing about whether it can throw the moisture back over the land as it forms before it moves away.

Yesterday it was an enjoyable rainy fall day with the bands of rain moving in from the east. It was cool and fall-like to boot. That day felt more like a football day than a baseball day with the breeze and cool dampness. When I watched the Phillies game, I realized that my baseball team felt the same way and didn’t really show up to play.

Normally this time of the year there are more lake cutters than coast storms, so this is a great change of pace from that. I hope it is a sign of things to come during the winter. We have not had a good snowstorm in a while now.

The storm has looked good on radar for a while now. It keeps pushing the precipitation back over the land. Below is a screenshot from my weather app.

Speaking of weather apps this screen shot is from the one I have been using for several years now. It is called Wx. It has no fluff, no ads, and is open source. The data is pulled from the NWS. It is not loaded down with enshitification, which increases with each update. For radar I use RadarOmega, but I use this app for everything else. I even have locations set up for my mom’s house, my sister’s, and the Phillies stadium so I can keep an eye on those. The Citizens Bank Park one would for the most part apply to my family back in Bucks County.

It is not pretty or modern-looking, but it just works. It is proof that apps can be great without being inefficient garbage.
