Hopped On The Bike To Test Leg and Hip

Last night I did not sleep long enough because I stayed up to watch the Phillies. These past several games have been fun to watch them again. They remembered how to hit without solely relying on home runs.

When I woke up this morning, I felt pretty tired. I tried to go back to sleep but kept rolling over. I had to piss but did not feel like getting up. I knew that once I got up, I was awake. Finally I caved and got up. I may have smelled coffee. It was much less humid in here today, so that made my coffee more enjoyable. I drank and enjoyed my coffee.

It was not too long after sunrise that I decided to give my deadlifts for this week a go. I didn’t have a lot of hope and have been contemplating back and forth in my mind whether I should do them today or another day.

The deadlifts felt pretty heavy from the start but manageable at least in the earlier sets. I was having problems with getting myself centered on the bar. That happens so often with these. I just wanted to work with some weight.

The good thing is I really felt my hamstrings firing today. The one that had been angry was very notable in a good way. I felt like I was doing more of a Romanian deadlift, which really is something I had been trying to work on earlier.

The final AMRAP was programmed to be 5+ reps at 260 pounds. I should have been able to do that any day. Today the struggles with getting centered on the bar really struck me on this set, and I got zero reps. For myself, I do have a personal rule of no more than two or three attempts to get centered if I am having that sort of day. I really do not want to risk a bad pull because I get frustrated. I am too old for that stuff. One thing for sure is that I would rather walk away and be safe, and that is just what I did today.

Later on I decided I wanted to hop on the assault bike and do intervals and slowly up the intensity to see how my hip would feel. I have been overly cautious with it, like I always am. I haven’t gotten my heart rate up super high since then. That is something I thoroughly enjoy the feeling of after the fact. It really doesn’t feel good during the process if I am doing it right.

I took the first few 30 seconds relatively easily and slowly bumped the intensity as they went on. The last few intervals I hit pretty hard. It wasn’t super humid today, but I was pouring sweat. I guess that doesn’t really say a lot because I am sweating profusely even in the winter. I remember doing a WOD with the barbell when it was in the upper teens/lower 20s and seeing myself steaming.

It definitely felt good to hit it harder. It feels so good to me how it takes so much for me to get breathing heavy.

After I was done on the bike, I went to walk out through the garage to get a bit of fresh air outside. I realized how tired my legs were when I hit the first step to go down, and it felt like my feet were on air. It has been a while for that to happen!

I have actually been wanting to use the bike, but this summer it has been so hot and persistently humid. That, and there has been so much going on. Better to start now than not at all, I guess.
