Hard Fail With Squats Today

This morning I woke up very early after only sleeping really a couple of hours. I fell asleep during the baseball game last night, but that was more like quick naps.

When I got up, I did not feel rested at all. It was warm and very humid. I knew I wanted to get my back squats in after we got home from the grocery store. The store is always so draining to me.

Although I just did not feel like heading out to lift, I knew I had to get it done. I was so overly sweaty, and the floor was slippery from it and the high dew point, but I still tried to do the best I could.

The lighter sets did not feel good at all. Even the empty bar felt overly heavy. Still, I took my time working up through the weights and sets to see where it went.

When I got to the set of 3 at 245 pounds, I failed and dumped the bar on the way up. The biggest thing that caused it, I think, is I felt my food slip just a little.

I looked at the bar sitting on the safeties and knew I was done. There will be days like this. As I get older, I think there will be more days when I feel weaker, like today. The important thing is I did show up. It did not go as I would have liked it to, but I got under the bar and did the best I could on this day.

Naturally, I was really annoyed at the fail today. On a typical day the weight was one I could probably rep without even warming up.

On the positive side, my leg and hip felt just fine. The one that I had angered the other week felt like it was all firing correctly. I do think that issue was in the back of my mind going into the day’s lifts, but that will be something that remains on my mind for a few weeks. Everything felt fine, though.

There will always be days like this. Thankfully, they are very few and far between. On the bright side, it should be a bit cooler and less humid after today. That will help me a lot.

I am grateful for life and always so happy that I started my fitness journey when I did. Was it later than I should have started it? Of course it was, but what’s done is done. I feel so very fortunate to have access to all the tools I need to keep my body moving well.

Looking forward already to starting my next cycle!
