Slowly Reworking Templates For Next Version Of Zola
I have no clue when it will be released, but the next version of Zola at least seems to be functional but has breaking changes with the switchover to Tera 2. The breaks are significant, but over the long run it will be worth it. The additions will make the templates much cleaner, I think, and more manageable.
If I didn’t have all the trickery with the weather-related CSV files, it would already be done, but that stuff has been relatively time-consuming. I like the changes in the templating a lot. Once I finally learn the difference, I will be done. Half of my problem is like anytime I learn something new. My brain runs on autopilot too often, sticking to the older ideas.
I like this part of keeping this website up. I like using my brain in different ways and learning new things. Of course I like the writing here and the release for my ideas, but what really drives me to keep it up is the experimentation with new ways to do things.
These past few days I have been in my head a lot, so it has been great to have something to keep my brain busy. I am fine most of the time, but I have my moments.
I think the conversion should go pretty quickly now that I am getting the hang of the changes. While doing that, I will think of better ways to do certain things. I will not say how long it took for me to come up with the idea to just completely copy the website to a separate directory instead of just renaming the content and templates directories. To be fair, I hadn’t looked too seriously into it until the past week or so.
I want to take the time to remind anyone that might read this to do and try new things. Never stop learning. Never let your thoughts get too stale.
