Probably Our Last Phillies Game Of The Year
We wanted to get another Phillies game in this fall before we couldn’t. My girlfriend’s work schedule has not been as conducive to getting to day games this year. We like going to them because we can just catch the train home and not have to pay to stay overnight. The day games are a little cheaper too.
I do really like the night games though!
The original plan was that we were going to go to a game or two next week, but I happened to notice on the calendar that she’s working and this vacation is the next week when they are away. Oops.
She has to put her vacation for the next year in late in the fall, so it makes things kind of difficult to plan every so often. Even worse is she has to put a second choice. She messed up the days for this one. We would have surely wanted to have the option of going to see the Phillies play the asshole Braves. That would be a meaningful game, and it was.
We had been tossing around the idea of going away in November, but the people we want to visit will be busy or needing some downtime, so we nixed that idea. That’s why we splurged on the night game.
It was still a little humid when we walked over to the train station this morning but nearly as ridiculous as it has been. Any other year the dew point in the lower 70s would have felt awful, but it felt refreshing this morning after being in the upper 70s to lower 80s a lot this summer.
We got to the city, and it was much drier and clearer. We had a nice walk from 30th Street Station to our hotel to get checked in and settle a bit before we headed off to the game.
It was really enjoyable over at the ballpark, and the sun was nice on the field, but we were in the shade while the sun was up. It didn’t take long for it to set, though.

Unlike July when we were down with my sister, the air was clear. No smoke or smog was to be had, so the center city skyline was clear.

She forgot her little piece of metal that allows her shoulder buddy Phanatic to sit on her shoulder and was worried that she lost it. Me being the child I am had to see if it would stick to the railing, and it did. We had fun moving it around each inning.

By later in the game, her little Phanatic had had enough of the game and was drowning his sorrows in my beer.
Phanatic Has Seen Enough Of Sale

Of course it’s not a Phillies game without a picture of the real Phillie Phanatic. The few games we went to when I was a kid, I didn’t really see him. I had binoculars but didn’t look in the right place, so I never knew what I was missing. Now I love him. Sadder is I think they might have still had the hot pants patrol, and I couldn’t see the girls either.
Best mascot in sports!

On Sunday it was so nice and refreshing, but we decided to walk the mile and a quarter to the train station from our hotel. I caught this picture of the sun shining between buildings.
Sun Between Buildings

As we were walking down Market Street, small groups of people kept running past us. Maybe a running club or something. It made me think of Becky and how she’s been running lately.
The game pissed me off, and the result wasn’t fun, but I am thankful for another opportunity to get to the ballpark. It’s a nice night out for us doing something we enjoy. For a long time we wouldn’t have been able to go. It sucked sitting next to the Braves fans and hearing them cheer but can’t help but to agree with them that everone hates the Mets. I hope they had fun being tourists for the rest of the weekend.
Each day doing something is a gift. I spent many years not wanting to due to depression and letting my vision problems beat me down. After that there were other factors in life that prevented us from doing things, but it’s our time now.
I love life, and I love doing things. Baseball is something we both enjoy so we go when we can.
