Got Presses In Even Though I Did Not Feel Like It

This morning I woke up feeling pretty tired. I thought I slept well, but I guess maybe just not enough. My brain and body both were feeling tired and as if they didn’t feel like going.

Yesterday I did my deadlifts pretty early in the morning and didn’t feel like it then either. Those felt pretty good. Even the moderately heavy final set at 270 pounds felt good. I grabbed a shower after that and lounged around hoping to get the gumption up to get an actual WOD in. I hadn’t slept enough or that great on Sunday night. Early in the evening, I was a bit gassy from the pork and sauerkraut we had for supper, which was really good.

Eventually in the afternoon I finally got up and changed and headed out to get an actual work in yesterday. I settled on rowing and moderately weighted hang snatches with the dumbbell and went at about 70%. The workout felt good, but I felt a little discombobulated, but I got it in and then felt better that I at least did something.

This morning I was feeling sluggish too. The finally cool fall-like air last night, I think, has been pretty relaxing. As always, this time of the year I get a little lazy and in a bit of a rut about things that happened long ago and nostalgic about things that aren’t coming back.

I messed with my templates on here and ate something quick but was thinking I wanted to at least get my strict presses in this morning. At the minimum I wanted to give them a try.

The smoke detector in the living room was chirping at me when I went downstairs. So of course I did the normal check of every place in the house for a fire that I can get to and then went outside and looked. It is just the battery being low, but I still get in that state. It always smells like smoke in this house due to the neighbors’ smoky fire pits and the one next door who cannot do a thing without a cancer stick in his mouth.

Even the empty bar felt a little heavy but doable. I did feel like I was moving well enough with the lifts, so I kept going. Up through the warm-up sets. As time went on, they felt better, and I was working my way up through the weights pretty quickly.

The final AMRAP for today was for 1+ at 130 pounds. Somewhat heavy, but something I should be able to do just about any day. I stopped after the second one, but I had more in me, I think. Just didn’t want to overdo it. My muscles have been a bit twitchy this morning and last evening, so something was better than nothing.

The neat thing about this weight is—and it is a humble brag. This was a weight that was a real struggle in at the old Crossfit gym. I might make it on a good day. Now I can do it any time, even when I am not feeling it like today. That’s a win. I feel that I just have sharper focus working out here at home, and it certainly helps that I can do it on my schedule.
