Wish We Could Have Been At Today's Phillies Game

Recently the Phillies have been fun to watch again. They are suddenly hitting and being patient rather than either swinging at junk pitches way out of the zone or watching strike 3 right down the middle.

Their defense has been better too. Today they went most of the game without hitting and were down by 4 with 2 outs in the 9th inning. I was just hoping they would score one so it’s not a shutout. Instead, they kept getting hits with 2 outs and 2 strikes and eventually tied it.

Schwarber came up and walked it off with a home run. That game went from being frustrating to exciting in a few at-bats.

I have never been to a walk-off win at a Phillies game. I have been hoping to see one at some point. Obviously a stress-free blowout would be better.

We don’t get to too many games because of timing and distance, but we appreciate it when we can go.

Back when I went to a few games in the 1990s with my dad or his sister when his car broke down, the only walk-offs that were happening were us walking out early because the game was just so bad. They weren’t going to win if they were up, let alone down.

I would have stayed but never pushed it as they drove and didn’t want to deal with traffic. Usually the seats my dad would get from work were further away, so I couldn’t really see a lot even bringing binoculars. It was still nice that he invited me. Normally I said no so he could take my brothers. They were closer with him, younger, and could actually see it.

We haven’t been able to get to as many games this year because of my Molly’s work schedule, but we got to some good ones and that outstanding experience back in July. That was decades overdue, but we didn’t know. We are going to see them play the Braves, and it looks like those games could be meaningful now.
