Used 50s For Clusters In A WOD

Later on this afternoon I was feeling pretty good. I was thinking of doing a WOD and finally decided to get off my ass and do one.

I didn’t want something long and complicated today. Instead, what I wanted to find was something fairly quick. Another idea I had in my mind was that I wanted to do something heavier.

This morning I saw the 50-pound dumbbells when I moved the rower against them to do my deadlifts. The sun was shining on them, and they were begging for me to pick them up and use them. It has been a few weeks, I think, and I have been wanting to ramp up the weights in WODS.

I found an older death by WOD. It called for death by clusters. That is a clean into a thruster. I cut the WOD shorter than I had to because I started coughing and didn’t want to go to failure with the heavier weight than I am used to, but I did certainly have more in the tank. I am pretty confident I could have made the goal reps. That’s not too shabby considering I haven’t touched this weight in WOD besides snatches in quite a while.

It was a good, simple WOD that got my heart rate up a good bit but got me out of my comfort zone. The weight was uncomfortable but manageable. These death-by-workouts are great for when you want to use a heavier weight than you are used to using. The cleans and squats felt good, and so did the push press portion of the thrusters. It was exactly what I wanted to get out of a WOD today.

Normally I don’t like to get my WODs in this late in the day unless I am doing a second one, but today I have been a little lazy. My side was twitching a bit too, so I wanted to see if that settled. It did some, so I got the workout in.

Music for the WOD was Suffocation.
