The Older I Get

I think I had mentioned this before, but I have found that I like to train in a singlet every so often. It just feels good to me. I like it for snatches and cleans because it helps me feel what my body is doing. The proprioception it gives me I find very helpful.

I also like it a lot for squats. It gives me more confidence in what my body is doing and how I am moving. I have to say that it is a real advantage to work out here at home. It is only me and my girlfriend, and she doesn’t care. Hell, she supports my odd ways.

Years ago, I had one from Adidas that I had bought as a joke, and it felt good. That wore out or something, so I threw it out. This summer I became very interested in weightlifting again. That interest has occasional ebbs and flows. Every interest or hobby in my life is like that, though. I think it has a lot to do with our limited space here. It will always be something I love to do, though I will never be good enough to do in a competition. I don’t have much interest in doing that at all these days, anyway. Really, I just like to do my best to move well.

I guess it was in a Facebook group or possibly on Reddit that I came across a company that will custom make one. That is what I wanted to do and go all in the weird, and likely will at some point. As can be expected, that was expensive. Over the past two years, I gained a decent amount of fat because I had lost some of my drive to work out at times. I did not want to spend that much on something that might not fit for that long.

I did find a place much cheaper, and they had one that I sort of liked with a space print on it. I went ahead and ordered that, and it got here in a few days. It felt great when I tried it on. Even better than that old Adidas one. The only problem is I had slightly tweaked my back, I think, tripping over a curb, so I took a few weeks off from lifting to let that heal. This company also sells one with short sleeves. That I liked. I ordered a black one a bit over a month later, and that too is comfortable. That one has the sleeves.

They do custom ones too. I don’t know which company I will order from, but I think I am going to see what they can do for me at some point to customize it for me. Maybe after our trip. The more expensive option does look more like there are more ways to customize it. She wants your measurements. That’s another hesitation I have with that option. I am not sure that I want to risk messing that up.

This year’s vault theme seems to be 80s stuff, so I think I will go all in with bright colors or something similar. I mean, I like bright colors and neon colors, so why not? It will be fun to make my girlfriend laugh too.

A side note: I think I still have that 80s workout costume from a few years ago, or at least some parts of it. I will break that out for one of these vault workouts.

I lost many of my inhibitions about doing things my way during the pandemic. I accepted that I am pretty odd. The whole NPE thing killed the rest of my hesitation. I understand now why I never fit in, and I don’t care.
