A Little Housekeeping For This Website

For a while now, on my website, I have been wanting to move some things around. I wanted the files and directories to be organized a little differently and some things renamed.

It is actually something that I had started a while back but forgot to set up those redirects. I did set them up now. Life has been hectic, to say the least.

Yesterday I changed the tags to labels. I think in my mind that makes more sense for how I use them. This time I remembered to set up the Caddy redirects right away rather than letting it go like I did when I reorganized some of my about-me stuff.

I also finally got around to renaming my wiki directory to junk-drawer instead. This name makes much more sense to me. For one thing, Wiki implies that it can be edited online, which it can’t since this is a static website. Obviously I can edit it.

A junk drawer is where you store all sorts of miscellaneous items that could be useful later or that you want to keep but don’t have a specific place for storage. That is exactly what I was using that section for, so the name made a lot of sense to me.

Almost everything I have ever published on here is still here someplace. I have unpublished two pages deliberately, and I am pretty sure I lost a few posts when I imported my old WordPress stuff into Hugo years ago. That was moderately glitchy. I added what I noticed to be missing. Every so often I check the links and redact broken links but have left the old posts up. The internet doesn’t forget. Everything is cached somewhere, so I just try to keep things accurate.

Using Zola definitely makes that fairly easy to do, as I just modified a few files and regenerated the site. The use of rclone to sync it to the server will simplify that aspect greatly compared to the old days when I used FTP. The program will delete what is no longer needed and only upload modified files. I used to have to do that by hand by keeping a text file with a list.
