Small Web

What is the Small Web? There isn’t really one definition, but I see it as pretty much noncommercial websites. It gives me a lot of nostalgia to think about surfing the web back in the late nineties when you never knew what you were going to find. There were plenty of unique sites. Countless awful ones along with great ones. That was before stuff was dominated by SEO spam and ads. People put stuff up because they wanted to.

Google mostly shows you that stuff rather than the unique, interesting stuff because the ad clicks benefit them. At least that is my take on it. If you were around long enough, you’d remember Google indexed everything. Realistically that’s impossible, but now they seem to have mostly just trash. Kagi is better at weeding that rubbish out.
