Verify You Are Human
I have noticed an annoying pattern recently. Trying to view certain websites, I have been getting many pages that say, “Verify you are human by completing the action below*. They claim it’s for security. Security my ass. My theory of it is that they are trying to stop AI bots from crawling the site. That’s just a guess, so I could be wrong.
I, as a human, find it very annoying to have to click a checkbox to verify that I am in fact a human being. I am sure that the bots have that figured out and will do it more quickly and efficiently than a human ever could, so it really verifies nothing at all.
Googlebot is not human. I can almost guarantee that measures are taken to ensure that Google will never see this fuckery. It is the same with paywalls. They allow Google to index it and show it in the results, but an actual human must jump through hoops to see the same information.
I miss the old internet when pages were unique and made for humans and not to please Google and load as many ads as possible.
