Sidewalks In This Town Are Such A Mess
The town of Mount Joy has so many poorly maintained sidewalks. So many of them are completely pushed up from the tree roots. Almost every tree has done it. They even have some on Main Street.
The one that stands out in my mind on Main Street is at an actual business. More than once I have tripped over it. They have since gotten rid of the tree, but the pavement is not repaired.
Speaking of trees, I couldn’t even begin to guess how many of them have branches at eye level. I am not even that tall! One could argue that the sidewalk would be expensive to fix, and it would be, but the tree is cheap and easy. Go to the store, buy cutters or even a saw, and just cut the damn branch. Not that hard.
Last weekend I nearly got a stick on a tree branch in the eye. Yes, it was at eye level for an average-height male. Maybe even a little shorter than average height. That was on Main Street, where they really should be enforcing it.
Just last evening, while walking to Joy’s, I rolled my ankle by stepping on the edge of the curb that sticks way up past the level of the sidewalk itself. I am not sure what the deal with that is. That was installed not too long ago. Places and people up here tend to use the lowest bidder, so that explains a lot.
Keeping the brush somewhat clear of the sidewalk is so rare around this town that I actually was surprised last evening walking home a different way to see that someone actually did it.
It is not like I expect perfection, but a little effort would be nice. Maybe if people had to live in the shoes of someone who is visually impaired or disabled in another way, they would think twice about not doing it.
I have seen the brush and snow removal being brought up on the Facebook groups. There was whining about fixed income and that sort of thing, of course.
