Over Three Years Paying For For Kagi Now
I was looking at my email for something recently and noticed the bill for Kagi. It got me thinking that I have been using that search engine as my daily driver for over three years. I really am still thrilled with it. It returns results relevant to what I am searching for almost all the time.
Some AI-generated sites slip through, but if they become enough of a problem, I can block or lower them from the results. On the rare occasion I use Google, I have to scroll halfway down the page anymore to even get to the results, and they are the SEO AI-generated fluff most of the time.
Google is still useful for the map stuff, and they have the reviews there. That is certainly handy.
It surprises me to a point that enshittification hasn’t really gotten to Kagi yet. I know the owner says he doesn’t want that, but everyone has a price.
I pay for their artificial intelligence stuff. I find that to be a super useful tool every so often. It’s great for a quick summary or a quick answer if I am not sure. I use it several times a week, I think.
Sitting here, I can’t help but think and ponder how much of my time paying for this search engine has saved me. I generally don’t have to sit here and sift through all the bullshit stuff just to get the relevant results. I like that they are staying smaller so they don’t become a target for the SEO stuff.
Even though it is cheap, I am happy to keep paying for this service as long as the price stays reasonable. I use it every single day. According to Kagi’s stats, it looks like I do between 1500 and 2000 searches a month. Just guessing in my head that probably means I am saving hours of time wasted not sifting through the crud.
I have been using the small web search option a lot recently.
