New Cord Fixed My Ambient Weather Station Console
Last week my Ambient Weather station’s console got caught up in a boot loop after a quick power outage. Like with anything else, I did a quick Google search—well, technically I used Kagi but that led me to the problems being caused by the power brick failing. That made a lot of sense since we had a power outage just before this happened, with a delay before the power went completely out after it dimmed.
It got me thinking how I would really love to upgrade to a Davis Vantage Pro 2. The thing is I am frugal. No, frugal is not the word. I am cheap when it comes to buying stuff like that. I would have considered it if my fix failed, but the cord was only about ten dollars. It got here last weekend, and the console has been on since then. It is nice that it uses a USB plug to get the power now instead of being attached to the brick. In an ideal world the console would just be USB-C. It did not come with a USB brick but I have some around.
I am missing several days worth of data, but that’s fine. It did break my macros for this site’s weather data, as I had made assumptions that there wouldn’t be missing days. My brain has been wonky, so it took me much longer to fix that than it should have, but I believe I got everything working now.
It is nice that they have a very reasonably priced replacement cord available. It’s so uncommon to have that in this day and age, where everything is disposable and engineered to break just after the warranty runs out. I have had this station for nearly 4 years now, and it’s still working just fine, apart from some minor glitches. It has served me well considering the price and the fact that it’s a lower-end one.
