Moved To A New Domain Again
I had used the old domain thegoodoldinternet.com of his website for a while now, but I was never super happy with it. I had originally bought the name to set up a Lemmy instance but ultimately decided I did not want that responsibility. Years ago I hosted a small geocaching forum, and that was a headache at times. I had that domain sitting around gathering dust. It was already paid for, and I wanted to move away from my ancient domain, so I settled.
The old domain name made sense for the Lemmy instance, but I feel like it does not really fit my personality enough for use hosting my personal domain. I had some ideas for a new name, and some of them are even available! I would say I will wait and think on this. With my spontaneity with this sort of thing, I figured I’d probably buy the domain and do it before the day ends, and it turns out I did just that before the sun even rose.
To me, I feel like “The Good Old Internet” is too serious-sounding and too wordy for my liking. The domain to me seemed to imply that I was being a “get off my lawn” type. Sure, I despise the overuse of JavaScript on simple pages and that sort of thing, It is no secret that I also despise the tons of trackers and ads on most pages. There’s none of that here. But I do use fairly modern tools and css when generating this website. I just felt that old name seemed limiting.
I was pretty sure I wanted it to be a .net domain, though. That has always had the best ring to me. I thought about one of the newer top-level-domains. I just feel like the newer ones are more likely to increase in price if they ever really take off.
This morning, for whatever reason, I was thinking of the fact that I can be so scatterbrained at times. That shows on this site how the ideas change randomly. Of course that domain was taken. I thought splatter brain next, which would be like an extreme metal song. Out of the blue while I was drinking my coffee, Scatter Splatter or Splatter Scatter popped into my head. I thought they both had a good ring to them. Obviously I settled with the former. The domain name just seems to fit my sense of humor perfectly and goes along with the randomness of this site. I like the quirkiness of the domain.
A little while back when I gave a link to this site to someone, I realized the older domain name just felt too long and awkward to use. It didn’t really have a flow to it. This one does, and I really like it. I had also wanted to move from .com to .net. Don’t ask me why. I just get these strange ideas in my head.
