Let The Weather Hype Begin!
It appears that we should have a significant snowstorm later this weekend. These snowstorms are always pretty unpredictable for exact totals around here. To get the best snow, we need to have the storm in the right location with enough cold air. Too much cold air, and the storm gets pushed south. Too little, and it changes to rain.
Things are looking pretty good for snow on Sunday. The local television station has, of course, been hyping it for days. They have been hyping everything for years. It has gotten so much worse, though, since the older meteorologists left. I think he retired.
His name was Joe Calhoun. He knew more about local weather than most people did. He probably forgot more than most people know. They would have Eric Horst from Millersville on at times. He, too, knew more about local meteorology and climate than most people. Neither of them really bought into the hype and shock like the station pushes now. They were more about the facts.
I have been noticing lately that they push impact day just about every day when it comes to the weather. I guess they have to keep the older folks glued to the TV to watch the news. Most younger people don’t watch that stuff.
I am sure they will be hyping the Arctic air next. I am surprised that they aren’t talking about the polar vortex as if it’s some sort of major new storm like they had in the past.
Breaking news at 11. It is January. Here in the middle latitudes, we can and often do get weather. Even storms and a few Arctic shots a year. I feel like they should have to be a little more responsible for what they broadcast. Instead we live in a world where maximizing the current profit wins over all. I don’t see that changing any time soon.
After I have a couple of drinks, I might have to hop on Facebook and troll the social media meteorologists. By meteorologist, I mean the ones that may have a degree but do nothing but post a screenshot of model run. The screenshot will be the most extreme solution.
