First Snow To Whiten The Ground

Some snow before a switchover to rain was in the forecast for yesterday afternoon. It was not the first time there was a chance, but last week it didn’t pan out. The precipitation had moved out before the temperature dropped. Those situations are usually over forecasted anyway.

Yesterday it was front loaded, though. All day long, the clouds thickened and lowered, with radar showing precipitation approaching. I did not have very high hopes since it had been a few degrees above freezing.

Sure enough, though, while I was watching the Eagles game (Pennsylvania State Champions!) I peeked out the window and saw snow falling. A little after dark, it was falling pretty heavily, and the ground was getting white. It was nice to see it falling and sticking even though it was not going to last.

The outside air had that feel to it that you feel when it’s snowing. The temperature didn’t feel as cold as it was, and the sound was muffled with the snow falling. I think the silencing of the normal traffic sound sand stuff is what I enjoy most about snowy evenings.

It had warmed up above freezing overnight as forecast, and plenty of rain had washed it away, so it was a wasted snow, but it was nice to see.

Here’s to hoping we have a better winter for snowfall this year. Last year was pathetic. The past several years have all been weak in the snow department, actually. We’re overdue for a good old-fashioned snowstorm.
