First Firefly Petunia Seedlings

Last fall I grabbed the seeds I could from the firefly petunia plants. I had read online that at least some people managed to get glowing plants from the seeds. The company actually says that they do produce seeds, but there is no guarantee that they will glow.

I thought there was no harm in gathering seeds to hold onto and see what happens. Actually, I wanted to gather seeds the year before, but we had a freeze before I got a chance to get them. That and the plants were dying off early. I think the neighbor’s tree passed some sort of disease to them. It seems to kill numerous plants we have later in the summer when we have them out on the patio under said tree.

I have been keeping an eye on these seeds to see if anything happens. Today when I moved it to do a WOD I peeked at it and saw the first green I have seen. Looking closer at it with my phone’s camera, I saw that it was a tiny seedling forming from the seed. That is something I have never been able to see before. I was pleasantly surprised. We really haven’t had much sun at all to come in the window since we planted these seeds. I guess if the others are viable, they shouldn’t be too far behind!

Time will tell whether they are going to glow or not. I hope they are bioluminescent, but if not, that is ok too. I saw that this year light.bio has new plants that have color. We want to pick up some of those!
