Dumbell Snatches Are Something I Can Do Fast.

I knocked out next week’s vault WOD today. I went with the shift version of it because it made more sense with what we have available, and I wanted to just get it done. The regular version had wall walks in it, which are one of those things that I believe really don’t need to be in a WOD. They are more of a skill than something to be done for speed. Street Parking, though, insists on having them programmed on a regular basis. Shift had inchworms, which aren’t much better really, but they are quicker to get done. The regular programs had TTB in t hem which I cannot do here because our bar is too low. Sometimes I do knees up but I didn’t want to do that today.

That’s in the first part of the workout. The second part \had snatches. Program A had double-dumbbell snatches. I am not a huge fan of those. I feel like they make me keep my legs too wide. I can do them just fine and do sometimes, but usually pass on them. Another option was to use the bar, but I didn’t feel like doing that today, so I went with shift with alternating single-arm dumbbell snatches. From the floor too!

Those snatches are such a simple movement that I can do well and very quickly. From the first time I tried them, I noticed my body naturally understands that movement. The WOD called for 30s of them for time in part two. I planned on hitting that part as a true sprint and did just that. I ended up completing the 30 reps unbroken in one minute and ten seconds.

Today I went with a 35-pound dumbbell for them. I have been using that one again a lot more recently after going lighter for mental reasons and for an abundance of caution with my wrist cyst. Knock on wood that popped and hasn’t come back at all for a couple of months. For years when it drained, it would just come back a few weeks to a month later. I messed up the transition on one of the earlier reps and caught my thumb on the outside of the handle, overhead. That was a close call. I wonder if I could have under a minute had I not done that?

They are just such a simple and effective part of a workout for me.
