Broke In My Pizza Plates With Hang Power Snatches
Last night I slept pretty well. Definitely not enough, but I slept well when I did. I woke up and started drinking my coffee, browsing the weather forums to see what the latest thoughts on today’s severe weather were. It busted bad even though things were looking great this morning. Just too much convective junk kept the temperature down. Disappointing but not unexpected or uncommon for this area.
I was pretty eager to get out in the garage this morning and break in my other Christmas gift. My girlfriend bought me the pizza bumper plates from Fringe. They look neat, and it’s neat that they come in a pizza box. I thought it would be fun to play with them and give her a little entertainment too while I did my workout. She was home this morning, so I knew she’d watch me.
The WOD was rounds of rowing and 8 hang snatches with the barbell. The snatches felt great today, and I was just flying through that aspect of the WOD. My girlfriend said the reps looked good and actually improved as I went through the workout. It did feel as though the knurling on the bar was tearing my hands up a bit in the hook grip, but that is because I have not used the barbell a lot recently. I felt like I was hitting my position really well and cycling them fast. Not only that, but I felt like my timing was just about as perfect as it’s going to get with the snatches. The bar was flying.
The floor was a little damp from the high dew point, and the bar was a bit damp, but it didn’t seem to be much of a problem for me doing my lifts. With it being warmer and more humid, I was dripping sweat by the time I finished the workout. It felt good to push hard.
As should be expected, my shoulders were a bit angry after the WOD was done, but that is because I was using them and moving them in ways I haven’t done much of lately. It is why I love doing various things.
When I was on the rowing machine, I did not really go out. That wasn’t part of the plan for me today. I really am trying to take that a bit slower and get my timing back on it. It seems to have improved a bit. For years rowing affected my wrist, so I think that didn’t help matters. The main goal of this workout today was to play with the barbell.
I was able to do the sets of snatches all completely unbroken. The 65 pounds felt super light, and it probably is for me with this movement, but it was the correct weight to use on this day since I haven’t done a lot with the bar since the fall.
The WOD felt great, and I felt like I kept the intensity up throughout the whole 16 minutes. I originally wanted to do this one yesterday morning, but my knee was bugging me a bit yesterday morning. It felt as if I needed to crack it, and eventually that happened, and it felt better. Out of caution, I still chose to rest it for that day and wound up just getting on the rower. I felt like that was the smart choice for that day.
I think I say it every time I write about WODs, but I do this for longevity and health. Do the best you can do on this particular day. That is how I approach workouts. I also suggest that you have a little fun with the workout too. That is what I did by using these plates. Life is way too short to take it too seriously.
Music today was Illogicist.
