Ambient Weather Station Console Stopped Working

Yesterday morning we had a quick little power outage. The light dimmed for a second, then I heard the sound of, I guess, one of the breakers tripping on the pole not too far away. That happens here every once in a while, so I didn’t think much of it. My weather station’s console didn’t come back on. I didn’t think much of it. The WS-5000 was in a bit of a boot loop, so I unplugged it and plugged it back in, and it seemed fine.

At some time during the afternoon, it stopped reporting to the internet. I did not notice it then but noticed it the next morning when my girlfriend pointed out that the station was off. That’s strange, I thought. I can only get it into that boot loop now. I will very rarely stay on long enough to receive data. Doing a little searching on the interweb forums, and it seems the power brick failing is a thing that happens with this model. I found and ordered a new USB cord for like $10. If that works, then that would be a great cheap fix.

If it doesn’t work, then I will have to strongly consider upgrading to a Davis Vantage Pro 2. That would have always been my first choice, but they’re expensive, and my girlfriend bought me this one for Christmas a few years ago. It has served me well and has proven that one is reasonably accurate in our yard.

I looked briefly at what has changed with the Davis, and it seems the console is much easier for me to see now, among other things. I am, however, cheap and do not like spending money on most things.
